Overview

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) had developed the Maritime India Vision 2030. It emphasized the importance of setting up an integrated maritime body that represents all stakeholders of India’s maritime sector. This Vision then materialized with the creation of the Indian Maritime Centre or IMC. The IMC was officially launched by the Honorable Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways on 13th September 2024. It was incorporated as a Section 8 company on 27th September 2024.

The IMC will function as a think tank, offering strategic insights for policy formulation and providing sector focused recommendations. Its core objective comprises enhancing India’s participation in global maritime forums. IMC will also organize flagship events and thus establish India as a leading global maritime brand.

Apart from this, the IMC will also try to promote sustainable growth within the maritime sector. This we aim to achieve by supportingworld class education, research, and skill development. A key focus will be on improving availability of well-trained seafarers and personnel for maritime and allied services. This will in turn strengthen the sector’s human resource capabilities.

At its core, the IMC will act much more than just being an organization. It aims to be a community of experienced professionals and aspiring mariners who are trying their best to preserve India’s maritime traditions while focusing on the future.

By organizing workshops, training sessions, and public events, the IMC will cover all gaps between the sector’s heritage and future innovations. Whether you are just entering the sector or are a seasoned veteran, the IMC will be your space to learn, grow and connect with like-minded individuals.
